Primary Children bridge Generation Gap with Care Home Residents
Children from Pencoed Primary School’s reception class visited Glanffrwd Care Home in Pencoed Bridgend for a session of Generation Games, a program put together to bridge the gap between generations and encourage interaction within the community.

Residents and children joined to create handcrafted Daffodils in readiness for the St David’s Day celebrations.

The children aged between four and five years of age, enjoyed the day’s activities and spending time with the Residents who enjoyed seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and loved getting creative with the glitter!

The Generation Games will last approximately 8 weeks and will involve various workshops and sessions where the children will visit the home and spend time with some of the Residents there.

Funded by The Welsh Assembly Government, the initiative after a successful program of visits last year, has been given further funding for a 2018 program. Teachers and children without hesitation wanted to repeat the visits to Glanffrwd, as they enjoyed the activities with the home’s Residents.

Joan Thomas, Home Manager at HC-One’s Glanffrwd Care Home commented:

“Bridging the generation gap is such a wonderful and rewarding activity for everyone involved. The children were beautifully well behaved and we look forward to seeing them again soon!

Many of the Residents have their spirits lifted by the children coming in and it really is a joy to see them interacting together. They can’t wait for the children to return and talk about their experiences for days!”
