Poppy wall completes memorial garden at Penrith Care HomeResidents from HC-One’s Croft Avenue Care Home in Penrith, Cumbria have been enjoying the tranquil sensory garden that was created as a memorial to Denise Shearer who used to be a manager at the home.

The garden covers all five senses; there is the sound of the solar water fountain, donated by Freda Epgrave and the sounds of birds in the trees and the wind rustling through the leaves.

There are beautiful flowers of all different colours that smell delightful and the Residents all enjoy the touch and smell of them. A fox lives just behind the hedge and his footprints can often be seen and it is also rumoured that there are fairies in the garden.

A beautiful wall of poppies, made by Freda Epgrave, has recently been added to the garden thanks to the kind donations from Raymond Hutchinson at the Royal British Legion who donated the poppies, and Huws and Gray, for providing the wiring so that the poppies could be displayed.

Residents, friends and the team at Croft Avenue have all given their own time to create this wonderful garden and the poppies have added to it by providing a beautiful visual display.

Day Care Resident Josie Donnell commented:

“The poppies are beautiful, just like the poppies of Carlisle, but these ones are so much nicer!

Everyone has put so much effort into the garden and it’s amazing.”
