Plastic pollution awareness from River Court care homeDid you know that July is a plastic free month; a perfect time to bring about awareness, promote recycling and work together to improve the environment.

That’s why the Wellbeing Coordinator at River Court care home, Arsalan Ali, requested Joan Brown, a Resident from Colne House within the home to work on an awareness speech. Joan very happily agreed.

When asked about why she asked Joan and what she did, Arsalan said, “The reason Joan was chosen is because she is a true wordsmith. There's eloquence and influence in the way she projects her speech. I and Joan spent extensive time doing research on plastic pollution. We made a draft which Joan then beautified.”

“I gave her a date and time of when the recording will take place. The day came, we recorded, and Joan absolutely nailed it. I made some edits to the video with Joan and saved the final piece when she was satisfied. It was amazing to see Joan put so much dedication towards the video. It was inspiring.”

Joan was ecstatic to be able to contribute to plastic pollution awareness and to be able to be part of the awareness video. She commented, “It was too good of an opportunity to miss. When Ali requested me to be part of the awareness video, I could not say no."

Home Manager, Bijoy Philip, commented, “"It was great to see Ali and Joan create such a wonderful awareness video. It goes to show that our Residents can do anything."
