Peterlee care home staff shortlisted for awards at the Great British Care Awards and National Care AAt HC-One’s Jack Dormand care home in Peterlee, County Durham, a 43-bed residential, nursing and dementia care home, has been shortlisted at the Great British Care Awards 2022 for the Northeast region and the National Care Awards 2022.

Home Manager, Marie Shillaw, has been shortlisted for two awards.

The Care Home Registered Manager Award at the Great British Care Awards and Care Home Manager Award at the National Care Awards.

In her role, Marie supports the Residents to have the best life possible. This can only be achieved by having excellent relationships with the families. Developing trust and understanding is paramount to the harmony in the home. Marie and the staff are extremely pivotal in supporting this trust. Marie embodies everything that a social care professional should be and her achievements over her 30-year career are testament to her boundless passion and dedication to her Residents.

Jack Dormand’s, Wellbeing Team, have also been shortlisted for the Team Award at the National Care Awards 2022. The team consists of four key players, Daniele Mustard, Joe Armstrong, Karen Storey, and Michelle Newell. Jack Dormand’s Wellbeing Team have set the standard for creating a dementia friendly community, both within the home itself, and in the local community. Assisted by suggestions from the Residents, the Wellbeing Coordinators organise a varied year-round programme of things to do. Many Residents take pleasure in hobbies, including baking, writing, gardening, dancing, painting, quizzes, and playing chess

The nomination for the award is in recognition of their hard work and kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion they show every day to ensure the people they support receive the best quality care.

Area Director, Lynn Lant, who nominated Marie and the Wellbeing team for the awards , said:

The National Care Awards consist of 20 awards which cover a wide range of areas of the social care sector. The awards pay tribute to those who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their area of work. The award ceremony of the National Care Awards 2022 takes place at Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge on Saturday 26th November. 

Commenting on her nomination, Marie Shillaw said: 
“It is truly an honour to be nominated for not one but two awards. I am very looking forward to the events taking place, but the team is very much a winner in my eyes already."

The Great British Care Awards. This consist of 21 awards, which cover a wide range of areas of the social care sector. The awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK and are a celebration of distinction across the care sector. The awards pay tribute to those who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their area of work.

The award ceremony of the Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the North East region takes place at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, in Newcastle on Thursday 10th November 2022 when the winners will be announced. 

Successful winners at the North East regional awards will progress to the national finals of the Great British Care Awards 2023 taking place on Friday 17th March 2023 at the ICC in Birmingham.

In total 20 HC-One Colleagues have been shortlisted for the Great British Care Awards in the North East.
