Perry Locks Resident celebrates her centuryThere was cake all round at HC-One’s Perry Locks Care Home in Perry Barr, Birmingham, this week as Resident Edna Barker celebrated her 100th birthday in style.

Edna marked her special day, which falls on the 27th February, with her family, as well as a special visitor in the form of the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Anne Underwood. The Lord Mayor visited specifically for the celebrations and chatted to Edna, who was delighted to be able share her special day with all of those at the home.

Edna, who was born in 1918 in Selly Oak, has lived a full life over the past 100 years, and she regularly regales HC-One colleagues and visitors to Perry Locks with wonderful tales of Birmingham during the Second World War and working at the Lucas factory. In fact, Edna is such a workaholic that she only stopped working at the impressive age of 78.

Among the gifts she received from friends, family and HC-One colleagues at Perry Locks, one of the most special was a personal card from the Queen, congratulating Edna on reaching her landmark birthday.

Edna and her guests tucked into a delicious cake, specially prepared by the Perry Locks kitchen team, while a local ukulele band serenaded the birthday girl. The celebration then continued into the afternoon, with Edna’s family treating her to a personal tea at the home.

HC-One Perry Locks General Manager, Rebecca Bristow, said:

“Edna is a much loved part of the Perry Locks family, and so we were all delighted to be able to celebrate her special day with her.

“We would like to thank the Lord Mayor for coming down to Perry Locks to wish Edna a happy birthday. Her presence really made the day all that more incredible for Edna.”

HC-One Managing Director, Amanda Scott, said:

“It really is a privilege for us at HC-One to be able to share in Residents’ special moments such is this. We pride ourselves on being the first choice care provider for Residents looking for the kindest and very best care in their communities, and it is a pure delight to be able to show our appreciation for our Residents.”
