Perry Barr care home gets artistic for Care Home Open DayAs part of the seventh annual Care Home Open Day, HC-One’s Perry Locks Care Home opened its doors to the community to take part in creative celebrations.

Care Home Open Day is a national event that gives local people the opportunity to learn more about the care services at the heart of their community. It focusses on bringing those who live locally into care homes to break down misconceptions, showcase what life is really like in a care home, and to highlight the skills and dedication of local people working as carers. The aspiration of everyone having a better understanding of how kind care is delivered.

This year’s theme was ‘Celebrating Art in Care,’ with HC-One launching a national Art Competition to encourage, Residents, their loved ones, Colleagues and neighbours to unleash their creativity and design their own masterpiece. Participants could create anything from paintings, drawings, knitting, poetry, calligraphy and pottery – the choices were endless and allowed all talents to be showed-off.

Residents’ artwork was displayed in the home for all to see, as a local vicar was in charge of judging the art competition. Afternoon tea was then served for all to enjoy, alongside home-made cloudy lemonade which Residents’ felt brought back many fond childhood memories.

Rebecca Bristow, Home Manager, commented: “Today was a fabulous event. I was so pleased to witness the interaction between Residents, Colleagues, families and members of the local community. It was wonderful to see the children from the local school taking such an interest in the artwork at the home. The home was full of people enjoying themselves, and I am filled with pride at how hard everyone has worked to make it a success.”
