Parker Trust form a special bond with the Residents of Pallion care homeParker Trust, a local group that offers childcare throughout the holidays, pays a visit to HC-One’s Ashton Grange Care Home in Pallion, Sunderland.

Every week, the children come with jokes to share, stories to tell and songs to sing. They even bring gifts that they have worked hard making, both edible and ornamental, to give to the Residents.

Residents also shared their stories from when they were little and of the toys that they used to play with, which the children were fascinated by and loved hearing.

A particularly lovely interaction was between June Monson and one of the children where she was asked what she used to eat for her breakfast ‘in the olden days’, to which June replied “bread and butter” and the children’s reply was of sheer amazement, “that’s just like what we have now!”

Ashton Grange built a good a relationship with Parker Trust, which meant that the visits became a regular interaction during the school holidays, bringing people together and also giving those who may not have visitors the change to talk.

Resident Jean Green commented:

“They were all on their best behaviour, they reminded me of my children when they were little.”
