Orchard Mews enjoy a jungle themed Open DayHC-One’s Orchard Mews Care Home in Benwell, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, welcomed the local community to celebrate the sixth annual Care Home Open Day in style on 21st April.

The family of HC-One homes across the UK took part in activities throughout the day, with Orchard Mews celebrating Care Home Open Day with a jungle theme in the courtyard. Celebrations started early with Richard, a Resident’s family member, providing the entertainment. His great voice, repertoire and his sense of humour made the Residents smile, sing and dance in their chairs.

Everyone enjoyed lunch in the beautiful sunshine, which consisted of gorilla burgers with chips and salad, crocodile chowder and exotic fruity skewers. The Residents enjoyed it so much that many came back for seconds.

An amazing £92 was raised at the Tombola after lunch, allowing the home to splash out on a therapy fish tank for the Residents. Throughout entertainment was provided by Christine Rosemond and David who sang a mixture of 40s, 50s and famous musicals, which got everyone singing and dancing along.

Keeping with the jungle theme, John from Crazy Creatures paid the home a visit with his pets: corn snakes, bearded dragon lizards, a tortoise, chinchillas, dwarf rabbits, an African hedgehog, a bird-eater Tarantula and a Burmese python. Some Residents were dubious whilst some were curious and fearless but all had an amazing time learning about the different animals.

Orchard Mew’s Home Manager, Malcolm Hanson said:

“I would like to thank everyone involved who made our Care Home Open Day such a success. It was amazing to see the Residents enjoying our various visitors and interacting with John’s Crazy Creatures. I’d also like to say a special thank you to all of the team at Orchard Mews.”
