A care home in Beeston has marked Dementia Action Week by introducing an important and impactful new resource for its dementia-affected residents.
HC-One’s Silverwood care home, which provides residential, nursing and dementia care, have installed a new ‘Magic Table’ interactive light projector after a series of fundraising activities.
And the huge range of games, videos, exercise classes, sensory activities, music options and remembrance prompts have been a huge hit with residents.
The Magic Table is especially of value at providing palliative care to residents living with dementia. Through a combination of light and sound the sensory games help bring a sense of calm and relaxation to residents, helping them relax and engage more closely with the world around them.
Wellbeing Coordinator, Jemma Mellard, said:
“This new resource has been transformative for many of our residents, especially those living with dementia. Their wellbeing has noticeably improved in the short amount of time we have had the Magic Table in place.
Even residents who don’t feel comfortable leaving their rooms can benefit, as the technology is portable and can be projected onto a bedroom ceiling.”

Dementia Action Week takes place across the UK from the 13 - 19 May.
