Acorn Meadow (previously known as Avandale Lodge) Care Home, Northwich, held an Open Day event on Wednesday 11th May which was attended by guest of honour, Northwich’s Town Mayor Councillor Sam Naylor who officially opened the newly rebranded, upgraded and refurbished home.
The 48-bed care home underwent a significant investment and refurbishment programme totalling just under £300,000 earlier this year. The dementia-friendly colour scheme and dedicated communal wellbeing areas which were added as part of the refurbishment will ensure that Residents can enjoy a modernised home designed to enhance their quality of life.
The home was delighted to open their doors to the local community to celebrate the changes at the home and reintroduce themselves to the community as Acorn Meadow Care Home.
Councillor Naylor, Northwich’s Town Mayor, led the ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the home’s new name and made a speech about the challenges the sector has faced over the last two years due to the pandemic. The Mayor expressed his gratitude for those working in care homes and thanked Home Manager, Steve McCarthy for all his hard work in making the home a caring, friendly and welcoming environment for all to enjoy.
Residents and Colleagues of the HC-One owned home enjoyed meeting Mayor Naylor and chatting to him about what life is like at Acorn Meadow – which is an integral part of the local Lostock Gralam community.
Councillor Helen Treeby was also among the guests for the home’s celebration day and joined with visitors from the Lostock Gralam community to enjoy a host of activities, entertainment and refreshment throughout the day.
Local singer, Steve Jackson, kept everybody entertained with his rendition of well-known classics from Tom Jones and Andy Williams, while Residents, Colleagues and guests enjoyed making use of a free ice-cream van kindly provided by Sophie at ‘Frederick’s’.
Tours of the newly refurbished care home were being held throughout the day, and visitors who were new to the home enjoyed meeting the Home Manager, care teams and the home’s Residents who live in their community.
Acorn Meadow is part of HC-One’s £54.5 million refurbishment and upgrade programme which will benefit 221 HC-One homes, and forms part of HC-One’s mission to be the UK’s first choice care provider in the communities it serves.
Steve McCarthy, Home Manager at Acorn Meadow Care Home commented,
“Although the weather was disheartening at the start of the day, nature was on our side and the sun came out as the event started. I was delighted to see such a great turnout from families and friends of the home.
“We were also delighted that Northwich’s Town Mayor Councillor Sam Naylor was our guest of honour and unveiled our newly rebranded, refurbished and upgraded home. The day was a great success and we really enjoyed opening our doors to invite the local community to see our newly rebranded, upgraded and refurbished home.”
