Residents at Kent care home, Wombwell Hall, enjoyed taking part in flower arranging today as part of their gardening club.
They up-cycled some jam and coffee jars to use as vases for the flowers and decorated the glass with ribbon.
“Our Residents enjoyed doing flower arranging as part of the gardening club, using a mixture of different kinds of flowers they were able to create a lovely arrangement for either their bedrooms or table arrangements which ever they chose”, one of the Colleagues remarked.
Doing this type of flower arranging was a really good way of including Residents who chose to stay in their rooms or are unable to get out of bed to be able join in with the gardening club. The smells of the flowers have also proven to work Residents for flower sensory reminiscence that brought up old memories, this helps to improve coordination.
Afterwards, Residents including Valarie, Herbert, Alice, Norah, Enid and Eileen enjoyed afternoon tea and a variety of cakes while admiring their arrangements.
Enid said, " Wow this was really fun and therapeutic, the lovely smells and pretty colours make me smile."
Residents particularly like this activity because it is quite independent and they like being able to get creative.
Norah commented, “This was great, I miss my garden and being able to do it form my bed makes me happy and brings back memories. "
Beckie Condie, Home Manager, said, “It’s been lovely to see the flowers around the home and the Residents enjoying making their arrangements.”
