National Care Home Open Day celebrations at Newton Aycliffe care homeThe Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Cllr Mary Dalton joined Defoe Court care home on Defoe Crescent – part of HC-One, the kind care company – for a day filled with entertainment and art to celebrate the seventh annual Care Home Open Day. 

Care Home Open Day is a national event that gives local people the opportunity to learn more about the care services at the heart of their community. 

This year’s theme was ‘Celebrating Art in Care,’ with HC-One launching a national Art Competition to encourage, Residents, their loved ones, colleagues and neighbours to unleash their creativity and design their own masterpiece. 

Celebrating in the summer sunshine, the Mayor joined Residents, guests and members of the team in the home’s garden for some wonderful entertainment from the Age UK Ukulele Band. The Mayor also announced the winner of the Defoe Court Art Competition, who will now be entered into HC-One’s national competition which will see a champion crowned from entries throughout the UK. 

Defoe Court Home Manager, Sarah Todd said: “Thank you to everyone who supported us on Care Home Open Day, we were honoured to welcome the Mayor along with our guests from the local community. 

“It was an amazing day, which raised over £100 for the Resident’s Comfort Fund.”
