Residents at Mountview care home in Rothley have created a fairy garden using recycled wood from two ash trees which were cut down in the area.
The residents were disappointed that the impressive trees had to be removed and decided to repurpose the wood into a sensory fairy garden for all to enjoy, preserving natural resources and reducing local landfill waste.
Using wood rounds and logs to create seating and ‘fairy houses’ and spreading bark to nourish the soil, the garden quickly came to life. 87-year-old resident, Margaret Godfrey said,
‘I think we should always recycle what we can, and it was such a good idea to reuse the bark and the wood all over the garden. The little ones will absolutely love our new garden.’
‘We’d love to add more splashes of colour next with some paint and new plants. We’d also like a bit more sun!’
Peta Goodwin-Hill, the Home Manager at Mountview, added, ‘It’s so important to everyone at Mountview to recycle and reuse where possible, and our new fairy garden is a beautiful way to represent that.
‘Our residents have already been spending lots of time enjoying their new fairy garden with their families and friends.’
