Mossley care home celebrates art at Care Home Open Day 2019Sandon care home in Mossley, Tameside was delighted to open its doors to the local community for a host of exciting summer activities as the home participated in the seventh annual Care Home Open Day.

The nation-wide event gives local people the opportunity to learn more about the care services at the heart of their community. It focusses on bringing those who live locally into care homes to break down misconceptions, showcase what life is really like in a care home, and to highlight the skills and dedication of local people working as carers.

This year’s theme was ‘Celebrating Art in Care’, with HC-One launching a national art competition for Residents and visitors to the home. Participants could create anything from paintings, drawings, knitting, poetry, calligraphy, pottery and more.

Sandon was delighted to welcome students from the local school, St Joseph’s Primary School, to its open day to enjoy the home’s celebrations with Residents.

Residents each paired up with a child, as they painted each other’s hands and printed them onto a canvas to create a community hand painting.

Residents and guests were also delighted to take part in the activities on the day, which included a tombola, raffle and cake sale, raising more than £200 for the Residents’ Comfort Fund.

Louise Schofield, Wellbeing Coordinator at Sandon, said: “Care Home Open Day was a great success. We were delighted to open our doors to the local community so they could enjoy the entertainment with our Residents and learn more about the kind care offered by HC-One. It was a great day that was enjoyed by all!”
