Milliner House Residents soak up the sea air in SouthendThe residents of Milliner House care home in Luton enjoyed soaking up the sea air recently as they spent an autumnal afternoon at Southend-on-Sea.

The two mini-buses set off from the home in Luton in search of the coast and there were renditions of “Oh I do like to be beside the seaside” ringing around as they arrived in a bright and sunny Southend-on-Sea.

Keen to make the most of the unseasonably warm weather, the residents and staff took a stroll along the seafront before stopping in at Neptunes for a traditional fish and chip lunch and plenty of laughter.

After a final stroll, it was time to head back to Luton having rekindled plenty of childhood memories from time spent at the seaside.

Residents commented: “I enjoyed seeing the dogs and looking in the shops. We got some fresh air and went along the beach. “I’ve not been to Southend before and it was a good day. I really enjoyed it and would like to go again.”

HC-One’s care home manager, Kathryn Sygrove, added: “It was heart-warming to see how much the residents enjoyed their outing. We are already thinking about our next seaside visit!”

The home’s wellbeing programme aims to meet the needs and interests of the residents and includes a variety of regular activities, trips and events. The Southend-on-Sea trip was requested by residents and was made possible as the home has access to a specially adapted minibus.
