During lockdown Residents at HC-One’s Aston House care home in Hayes, Middlesex have been carrying on with their normal routines which includes a healthy workout with a new pedal exerciser.
The exerciser has become an integral part of the Residents’ activity plan and helps Residents to keep active, fit and engaged, both mentally and physically.
Alice, a Resident at Aston House, commented: “I enjoy every bit of the workout session and I already can’t for my session next week.”
Not only does the pedal exerciser keep Residents physically fit, it is also a great way to keep their minds active and is particularly useful to those living with dementia.
Colleagues have received excellent feedback from Residents and their families about how motivated they have become since starting to use the pedal. One such Resident is Barbara who struggles to communicate like she used to and usually keeps to herself, but as soon as she starts her session on the exerciser she comes out of her shell.
Arun, the son of a Resident at the home, noted: “It’s been really extraordinary to see my Mother change and to hear that she’s exercising on a daily basis.”
Colleagues have noted an incredible transformation among Residents since introducing the workout, including less anxiety and confusion, better sleeping and eating habits and a more active lifestyle.
Aston House Home Manager, Seema Jose, said: “The exerciser has indeed been helping Residents’ wellbeing and we’ve seen an improvement in their cognitive ability. It makes our jobs very rewarding.”
