Mayor and Mayoress join ‘Celebrating Together’ event at Dove Court Care HomeDove Court, run by HC-One, located in Burnley, Lancashire, was visited on Friday 30th June by Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Raja Arif Khan, and Mayoress of Burnley, Zaban Nisa, as the home welcomed visitors and guests from the local community to the home to participate in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations from 26th June to 2nd July 2023.

Dove Court was delighted to open its doors to celebrate Care Home Open Week with Residents, Colleagues, friends, family, and the wider community.

Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. The week provided care homes with the opportunity to showcase what they have to offer, their fantastic facilities, activities and services, and to remind their neighbours that they are there if they need support. Residents and Colleagues in HC-One’s care homes enjoyed opening their doors again to celebrate the week together with friends, family and people from the local areas they serve.

Residents and Colleagues of the HC-One owned home enjoyed meeting the Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Raja Arif Khan and Mayoress of Burnley, Zaban Nisa, and chatting to them about what life is like at Dove Court – which is an integral part of the local Burnley community.

Dove Court’s chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘Celebrating Together’. Throughout the week, Residents, Colleagues, families and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities which were enjoyed by all, including a visit from pupils at Casterton Primary Academy and a range of carnival games such as hook-a-duck, tin can alley, quoits and hoopla. Residents and visitors enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with various cakes baked by the kitchen team.

There was also live entertainment from performers ‘Cat’s Pyjamas’ who specialise in providing entertainment for Care Homes. Their musical performances provide many music therapy benefits including for those living with dementia. The shows are fast paced, fully interactive, colourful, visual and highly entertaining.

Visitors also enjoyed learning from Colleagues in the home about what a rewarding career in care looks like and finding out about opportunities for community engagement and volunteering roles to support their local care community.

Catherine Brierley, Home Manager at Dove Court Care Home, said:
“We were delighted to welcome Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Raja Arif Khan and Mayoress of Burnley, Zaban Nisa, to our home and open the doors of Dove Court again to welcome in our local community and bring everyone together to celebrate Care Home Open Week 2023. Everyone had an amazing time.
“We are proud to support Burnley, and our Open Week celebrations provided a great opportunity to reconnect with our local community after the challenges of the pandemic, to support community engagement, and to remind our local community that our kind care teams are here if they ever need support for themselves or a loved one.”

Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Raja Arif Khan, commented:
“On our recent visit to Dove Court, we received a very warm welcome, the staff were caring and polite to both Residents and visitors, we had a wonderful time.
