Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon wish centenarian Helen a happy 100th birthdayCelebrations were in full swing at HC-One’s Aston House care home in Hayes, Middlesex as Resident Helen Howard turned 100 years old.

Centenarian Helen was born in America on 22nd June 1919, before moving to Ireland with her family when she was two years old.

After eventually moving to England, Helen married her husband Thomas in 1938, before becoming a mother of two to her children, Madeline and Tom. Many of her working years were since spent as a nanny.

Helen’s family has since expanded greatly, with her becoming a grandmother of five and a great-grandmother to 12.

When asked what her secret is to a long and happy life, Helen said: “Do whatever you want and eat and drink whatever you fancy.”

Helen was delighted to begin her special day at Aston House with a surprise visit from the Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon, David Yarrow and Mary O’Connor, who presented her with cards and flowers.

Following the special visit, Helen was chauffeured to a venue for a surprise birthday party with family and friends, where she was treated to a handmade cake and lots of special party balloons.

Seema Jose, Home Manager at Aston House, said: “At HC-One, we make every effort to ensure our Residents celebrate their special occasions in the best way possible.

“Helen is a lovely lady and such an inspiration to the whole team at Aston House, as well as fellow Residents. We were so proud to share such a special moment of Helen’s life surrounded by her family and friends.”
