Mayor and Mayoress join Melbury Court at the beachThe local Mayor and Mayoress of Durham, Bill Kellett and Jean Chaplow joined HC-One’s Melbury Court in Durham, to celebrate the sixth annual Care Home Open Day on 21st April.

To celebrate in style, Bill Kellett, Mayor of Durham, and Jean Chaplow, Mayoress, joined the home in the Great Melbury Bake Off, where they helped to judge the competition. They joined two Residents, Margaret Barker and Pam Hampton as well as staff member Glynis Metcalfe to sample the entries and award the prizes.

Melbury Court opened their beach area, where the children had a great time and even held a sandcastle competition. The beach area, aptly named Beach Melbur, is to become a feature throughout summer to enable Residents and their families to enjoy the feel of the seaside in the country and to make the most of the summer weather.

Valwins ice-cream van paid a visit and with the sun shining, everyone had a brilliant afternoon.

They were also joined by Bella and Ginger, their Pets as Therapy dogs and raised a fantastic £67 from the bonus ball draw, for the HC-One Foundation.

Bill Kellett and Jean Chaplow were given a tour of the home and met with Residents and colleagues to see first-hand the kind care being delivered.

Melbury Court’s Home Manager, Nicola Coulson said:

“Thank you to everyone who took part in Care Home Open Day, especially the Mayor and Mayoress. We all had a lovely day and enjoyed a visit from our therapy pets from Pets as Therapy. As the new Home Manager, I am delighted to be a part of this team.”
