Lord Mayor of Swansea celebrates the power of art with local care home ResidentsThe Mayor of Swansea joined HC-One’s Peniel Green care home in Llansamlet for a day filled with arty entertainment as Residents and members of the local community celebrated Care Home Open Day.

Peniel Green organised a day filled with exciting activities for the seventh annual Care Home Open Day; a national event that gives local people the opportunity to learn more about the care services at the heart of their community. It focusses on bringing those who live locally into care homes to break down misconceptions, showcase what life is really like in a care home, and to highlight the skills and dedication of local people working as carers.

This year’s theme was ‘Celebrating Art in Care’, with HC-One launching a national art competition for Residents and visitors to the home. Participants could create anything from paintings, drawings, knitting, poetry, calligraphy, pottery and more.

Peniel Green was delighted to kick off the entertainment with a visit from Mike’s Donkeys, as Residents and visitors had the opportunity to meet Dewi the donkey. Everyone then enjoyed a pottery class, where they learned how to make ornaments for the home’s garden.

Residents at the home were also delighted to meet the Lord Mayor of Swansea, Councillor Peter Black, as he joined in with the celebrations.

Jacqui Orrells, Area Director at HC-One, said: “It was fantastic to see so many members of the local community visiting Peniel Green for Care Home Open Day. It is a wonderful opportunity to bring the local community together to showcase how art is a fantastic way for our Residents to improve their health and wellbeing.”

Located on Peniel Green Lane, Peniel Green offers short and long term care packages for older members of the community needing residential, nursing and residential dementia care. The home is also celebrating achieving a 9.7/10 average rating on the sectors leading comparison website, carehome.co.uk.
