Lord Mayor of Sheffield joins great great grandmother’s 100th birthday celebrationsCelebrations were in full swing at HC-One’s Ascot Lodge care home in Sheffield as Resident Margery celebrated her 100th birthday with a surprise appearance from the Lord Mayor of Sheffield.

Margery Andrews was born on Boyton Road in Sheffield on the 8th June 1919, the year after World War One came to an end.

Margery enjoyed a colourful career growing up, working in a fruit shop and at one time worked in a factory making umbrellas. In her spare time, she enjoyed cycling and sequence dancing with her husband and going on breaks away to Butlin’s with her family.

After marrying her husband Albert in 1940, Margery went on to have three children: Elaine, Glynis and Ian. Her family has since expanded, as she has gained six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.

At her 50th Wedding Anniversary, Margery revealed that her secret to a long life and a happy marriage was to never go to bed on an argument.

Margery’s children were delighted to organise a celebratory birthday party for their mother at Ascot Lodge, where she was joined by friends, family and fellow Residents who wished her a happy 100th birthday. She also had a special visit from the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Tony Downing, and his Lady Mayoress, as well as getting to meet her newest great granddaughter Kennedy for the first time.

Kerry Green, Home Manager at Ascot Lodge, said: “At HC-One, we make every effort to ensure our Residents celebrate their special occasions in the best way possible.

“Margery is a lovely lady and such an inspiration to the whole team at Ascot Lodge, as well as fellow Residents. It was amazing to see her smiling all day long as she celebrated her 100th birthday. We were also delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress into the home to join in with the celebrations.”

Located on Newlands Road, Ascot Lodge offers short and long term care packages for older members of the community needing residential dementia and nursing dementia care.
