Lord Mayor of Leeds celebrates Resident’s 100th birthday party at Augustus CourtA Resident at HC-One’s Augustus Court care home in Garforth, Leeds was delighted to celebrate her 100th birthday with a stylish party at the home.

Sadie Wilson, who was born in Durham on 24th February 2019, and later married her husband Albert at the age of 21, celebrated her milestone birthday surrounded by friends and family.

The team at Augustus Court decorated the home with balloons and banners for the event, as Sadie’s nieces and nephews filled the coffee lounge with the centenarian’s loved ones.

In addition to her delight after seeing a large buffet and receiving two birthday cakes, Sadie was overwhelmed to see the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Leeds in attendance.

The Mayor, Councillor Graham Latty, presented Sadie with a certificate and badge to mark the occasion, which she has since put on display with her 100th birthday card from the Queen.

Sadie’s family and fellow Residents were also delighted to meet the Mayor and Mayoress, who stayed and chatted to guests while enjoying a slice of cake.

Sadie, who, in her earlier life worked in a Munitions office, says the secret to a long life is having loving family and friends, as well as being well looked after.

A fellow Resident commented: “That was such a fantastic party for a very special lady. It was a real pleasure to be able to celebrate Sadie’s birthday with her.”

Jane Carr, Home Manager at Augustus Court, said: “At HC-One, we make every effort to celebrate our Residents’ special occasions. As it was Sadie’s 100th birthday, we wanted to throw an unforgettable party for her and her family. She loved every single minute of the celebrations, and her smile brought a tear to everyone’s eyes as she was presented her certificate from the Mayor.”
