Local MP hosts awards ceremony at Fenham care homeResidents at HC-One’s Sutherland Court Care Home in Fenham gave a warm welcome to local MP Chi Onwurah, who stopped by the home to meet Residents and members of the team.

Ms Onwurah was treated to a tour of the home, chatting to Residents along the way about what it is that makes life at Sutherland Court so special to them. Everybody let her know how well looked after they were, with one Resident telling her that they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Ms Onwurah expressed her appreciation of the work that carers do and the needs of those they look after, telling everybody at Sutherland Court what a lovely home she felt they had.

She then happily took the time to hand out a series of Kindness in Care awards to three staff members – Natalie Ward, housekeeper, and Sherry Mayle and Susan Connelly, two kitchen assistants. These monthly award initiatives recognise the efforts of the kindest HC-One colleagues, and the impact they have on the lives of Residents and their loved ones. These three ladies had gone above and beyond in their roles, covering extra shifts and helping out with the duties of their Sutherland Court co-workers when they were absent from work. Ms Onwurah was touched to see such high standards of care in her constituency, and everybody at Sutherland Court hopes to see her again very soon.

HC-One Sutherland Court Care Home Manager, Karen Stewart, said:

“We are very grateful to Ms Onwurah for taking the time to visit us here at Sutherland Court. The Residents were very excited to meet her, and we’re very thankful to her for handing out the Kindness in Care awards to our hardworking staff – it made a special moment for celebrating all our hard work and achievements that much more memorable.

“We look forward to welcoming her back soon.”
