Susan ‘Sue’ Grantham, a Head Housekeeper at HC-One’s
Victoria Gardens Care Home in Coventry, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Care Housekeeper Award category at the prestigious National Care Awards 2021.
Sue is one of three HC-One finalists shortlisted in the National Care Awards 2021 across a variety of award categories. The finalists were carefully chosen in recognition of their hard work, kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion they demonstrate in their job roles.
As Head Housekeeper, Sue’s responsibilities include supervising the Housekeeping Team, ensuring cleaning of the home is carried out to a high standard and leading by example, stock management and ordering of all cleaning products. She also volunteered to take on additional responsibilities during the coronavirus pandemic and acts as the infection control lead and champion in the home.
Sue always makes sure the Residents are at the centre of everything she does, including ensuring they are part of the housekeeping experience. She acknowledges that it’s the Residents’ home and therefore their choices should be respected. She always makes Residents feel valued and that they are in control of their life at Victoria Gardens.
Outside of work, Sue is married with five grown up children, 11 grandchildren and two dogs. She loves swimming and taking care of the grandchildren.
Sue was nominated for the Care Housekeeper Award by Victoria Garden’s Home Manager, Julie Jones, who said:
“As Head Housekeeper, Sue goes about her role with the Residents in mind at all times. Sue has that ‘X factor’ that is difficult to put into words.
“When I informed Sue that I was nominating her for this award, she was extremely humble, bashful and surprised. Sue just doesn’t see her worth, she just sees it as the norm and that the Residents deserve the very best and that’s what they should get – it’s because of this that makes her even more valuable!”
Hearing of the news of her being shortlisted as a finalist Susan ‘Sue’ Grantham, Head Housekeeper at Victoria Garden Care Home, said:
“I feel truly honoured to have been nominated for a care award, as so many of my Colleagues are equally deserving of an award. Working at Victoria Gardens, I am always mindful that this is our Residents’ home. I feel privileged to be a part of their lives.”
