Llys Newydd Residents celebrate St David’s Day surrounded by family and friendsSt David’s Day celebrations were in full swing at Llys Newydd care home in Capel Hendre as Residents invited family and friends along for the occasion.

The traditional Welsh celebrations included trying Welsh cakes and bara brith, a fruit loaf, followed by cawl a chan that evening.

The home was also delighted to open its doors to a few extra special visitors, which included children dressed in traditional Welsh attire and a young lamb called Dewi, named after the patron saint of Wales.

During the St David’s Day celebrations, some staff also celebrated their long service at the home. Certificates were presented for five and ten years at the home, along with two members of staff also receiving Kindness in Care Awards.

One Resident commented: “The traditional Welsh celebrations were such a treat. I loved meeting Dewi the lamb and tasting some of the amazing Welsh food on offer.”

Catrin Hooper, Home Manager, said: “It was brilliant to celebrate St David’s Day and staff achievements at the same time. The whole home was full of happiness, laughter and smiles.”
