At HC-One’s
Moss View residential, nursing and residential memory care home, in Huyton, Residents and staff had their own Olympics games recently.
Starting with the opening ceremony; the Olympic torch relay. Resident ambassadors, and captains of the green and yellow teams, Tony Campbell and Eva Britnell from the home’s Harmony unit started the relay. Then passing on to fellow Residents Joan Walmsley and Ron Littler, who are the General unit captains of the red and blue teams.
Ron then lit the Olympic flame and the games commenced.
Day one of the Moss View Olympics saw the first gold in the morning with a bean bag target game. The gold going to the yellow team by Harry Hewitt winning a fabulous high score of 650.
Later Ron won a fabulous gold in the egg and spoon race, a new Moss View record of 12.5 seconds!
Receptionist and Wellbeing Coordinator, Jenine, won an outstanding gold in the sack race. Colleague Sinead won the silver, and Housekeeper Cassie won bronze. Home Manager Jane just missed out on the Bronze with a valiant attempt!
Other medals were won in armchair netball too, gold going to Harry Rawsthorne who lives on the memory care unit.
Day 2 was an eagerly awaited relay race, with gold going to the yellow team.
This was followed by baton swap, as gold went to the Blue team, making them outright winners with 3 golds 2 silver and 1 Bronze.
Residents and staff were very honoured to receive their medals at the ending ceremony which was accompanied with a celebration drink
Lesley, Wellbeing Coordinator, said, “The Residents have enjoyed watching the Olympics on the television over the last two weeks cheering team GB. So, to join in their own Olympic games made them feel a part of it all and loved getting their medals.”
Eva Britnell, who is a Resident on the Harmony unit, thanked staff for a fabulous time. She said, “That was so much fun. I am looking forward to our next event!”
Jane added, “What a fabulous week we have all had. It was lovely to see all the staff and Residents getting involved, participating and having so much fun. It was a great moral booster and very well organised.”
