Lilian’s wish to swim granted by Victoria ParkLilian, a 101 year old Resident at HC-One’s Victoria Park had her wish granted to get back in the water again.

In her younger days, Lilian was a competitive swimmer who swam at Coventry baths and won five swimming competitions. She often dreamed of getting back in the water again and spoke to staff at Victoria Park about her wish.

For her 101st birthday staff organised a collection and bought several gifts, one being a brand new swimming costume. The new swimwear gave Lilian the confidence to get back into a swimming pool.

On Friday 23rd February Lilian’s wish was fulfilled as staff from Victoria Park had organised for her visit the local swimming pool at AT7 Centre. Lee Franks, Deputy Manager and Victoria Vincent-Squibb, Administrator from Victoria Park assisted Lilian in the pool, during her 20 minute swim she gained more confidence and had a lovely time.

Lilian described the feeling of being in the water again after so many years as fantastic and said she would like to make it a regular activity.

Richard Marrs, Centre Manager from AT7 helped staff from the home by providing access prior to Lilian’s visit so staff could ensure that the centre had the appropriate facilities and free entry to the swimming pool on the day.

Patricia Alleyne, Home Manager at Victoria Park said:

“It was an honour to help Lilian’s wish come true and we will continue to support Lilian whenever she wants to go swimming again.”

HC-One Regional Managing Director, Amanda Scott, said:

“It is lovely to hear that Lilian had such a good time swimming again. Organising memorable events like this is an important part of how HC-One provides the kindest care.”
