Knitting superstar gifts the premature baby unit at the RVI in NewcastleResident at HC-One’s Foxton Court Care Home in Morpeth, Northumberland uses her talent of knitting to gift hats and blankets to the premature baby unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

Catherine Ferrier loves to knit and is something that she has done since day one at Foxton Court. She usually knits dishcloths to raise money for the Resident’s fund, which are very successful, especially at the homes fairs and cake sales.

At a recent Resident’s meeting, Catherine voiced how she would like to try something different with her knitting.

Everyone then put their heads together and came up with the idea of knitting hats and blankets for the premature baby unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

Catherine was overjoyed at this and took to knitting straight away. She made sure that everyone possible was involved in the process, with her daughter helping her when she comes in to visit.

She also tried to teach Wellbeing Co-Ordinator Bethany McDonald to knit, but it didn’t go to plan so she contributes by going out to buy the supplies instead.

Catherine commented:

“I am really enjoying knitting the hats and blankets, it is such a pleasure to be able to give something to those who need their days brightened.

We do this by using what are described as happy colours: pinks, blues and oranges.”
