Kindness in our CommunityA group of young people representing Barnardo’s Works have taken time out of their summer holiday to commit to an act of kindness at Cradlehall Care Home in Inverness. The young people working with Barnardo’s from Inverness and Nairn, spent several days transforming a dull garden summer house with imaginative painting. The bright colours and attractive features of the summer house have made a difference to the Cradlehall residents, providing them with a lovely bright view from the window and somewhere to relax in the garden. The young people’s positive approach to planning and delivering the project was an example to us all and their consideration and patience towards our residents admirable. The young people took time out of their busy day to talk to the residents. Everyone had a part to play and the young people were all very patient, considerate and encouraging of each other.

The youngsters works so hard, they were a great team and we are very grateful to them for the work they put into the project. The residents in the home enjoyed meeting new people and being part of what felt like a party atmosphere.

The young people we are working with are on a programme called Fit for Work, which is funded by Cashback.  It is completely voluntary and the young people have all been attending two days a week to learn about financial, physical and emotional health and were keen to give something back to the community.  They were so excited about the project and were really enthused at being given the autonomy to design the house after receiving a colour brief from the residents.  Each of them enjoyed completing the project and did not want it to end.  We would all like to say a huge thanks to the residents and staff for making us so welcome.
