Kendal care home supports green-fingered Resident to enter local gardening competitionThomas Stavely, a Resident at Summerhill care home in Kendal was delighted with the team supported him to continue his passion of entering local gardening competition, Kendal in Bloom.

When Thomas moved into Summerhill, he thought his days of entering the Kendal in Bloom gardening competition were over, but when Wellbeing Coordinator, Sean Moore learned of Thomas’ passion for gardening, he reached out to the organisers of the competition to see if the home could enter on Thomas’ behalf.

With the judges due to visit in July, Thomas and the team at Summerhill got straight to work, transforming what was once an old suitcase, into a gardener’s delight. Thomas commented that he feels honoured that he is still able to take part in something that is a big part of his life and is grateful to the support and encouragement he has received from the team at Summerhill.

In September, the team from Summerhill attended the award ceremony where Summerhill was presented with the gold award for the community. The team were delighted to accept the award in Thomas' honour and thanked the organisers of the event for allowing them to enter the competition. It has since been announced that Kendal in Bloom will host a care home category in next years competition, which will hopefully encourage more care homes in the area to take part.
