The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has been celebrated by everyone at the
Beeches residential care home, on Tameside, including traditional English treats, games and lots of reminiscing.
In the weeks leading up to the Jubilee, Colleagues and Residents discussed how they should celebrate the occasion and what decorations and displays they should do to mark such a special event. Everyone looked forward to the extended weekend, as they began decorating and getting the home ready for a few days of celebrations.
The week started with a traditional English tea with biscuits; everyone enjoyed a variety of edible treats, including firm favourites custard creams, rich tea and bourbons.
On Thursday 2nd June, Residents continued with UK themed dining, and enjoyed a fish and chip dinner from the local chip shop.
This then followed with online entertainment from singer Kayley who sang various songs to celebrate the Jubilee.
Television coverage was also shown throughout the day and the topics of conversation went all the way back to 1952, when the Queen had her coronation. This sparked much discussion among Residents on what they remembered from that special day.
On Friday 3rd June, everyone dressed to impress as the home held a traditional street party. A buffet was prepared by kitchen Colleagues and a selection of cakes was provided by the local bakery.
Everyone listened to music from the likes of Vera Lynn and The Andrew Sisters.
Jubilee bingo, quizzes and other games were also on offer, with the television coverage of the celebrations, played in the background.
Sade Smith, Wellbeing Coordinator, said, “Celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee has been lovely with the Residents. We have had two really good days with plenty of activities and everyone has enjoyed themselves.”
