A Jesmond resident has revealed her secret to a long and happy life as she celebrates her 104th birthday.
Dorothy Dawson, resident at HC-One’s Fleming Court Care Home in Jesmond, Newcastle, celebrated her milestone birthday on Tuesday, March 4 with a heart-warming tea party attended by friends, family, and the dedicated team of staff. The festivities kicked off with the home being decorated for occasion and guests being treated to a special birthday cake for Dorothy.
Spirited Dorothy blew out all of her candles before the birthday girl and her family shared touching stories of the past, while guests admired the beautiful flowers and thoughtful gifts Dorothy received.
Dorothy is originally from Wandsworth, South West London, and lived in London during the Blitz. She also worked in an ammunition factory in Staffordshire during the Second World War. She met her husband Bill during the War and the couple tied the knot after the War ended.
The couple then moved to Newcastle, where Bill was from and despite living in the North East for much of her life, Dorothy has kept her London twang. When asked her secret to a long life, Dorothy said: "My secret to a long life is eating lots of porridge and having a good sing song."
Whilst Karen Stewart, HC-One’s Fleming Court Care Home Manager, said: "It was an absolute privilege to be part of Dorothy’s 104th birthday. Seeing her smile, sing, and enjoy the company of her loved ones was truly touching, it brought a tear to my eye. It was an amazing afternoon filled with love and joy."
