Jack Dormand care home form a special bond with Dene House Primary SchoolFor the last 6 weeks, 10 pupils from Dene House Primary School have been visiting HC-One’s Jack Dormand Care Home in Peterlee, County Durham where they have worked together to make clippie mats every Friday morning.

The pupils have now broken up for their summer holidays, before going on to their new senior schools in September, so a couple of Residents, Hazel Callan and Mary Brown, wanted to surprise them with some homemade gift bags and took them up to the school for the children.

During the trip, Mary and Hazel along with Donna Price, Wellbeing Co-Ordinator at Jack Dormand, got to go into the staff room which brought back lots of memories for Hazel as she used to be a Head Teacher when she was younger.

Hazel spoke to the children about how different it was when she used to teach, which they found really interesting.

She commented:

“What polite children, it has been brilliant spending time with them and it was wonderful to return to a school again, although it has changed so much.”

The children were thrilled with their gifts and Jack Dormand are planning to work with another Year 6 group after the summer as the Residents have really enjoyed this little project.

Donna Price commented:

“I have really enjoyed seeing the younger and older generation come together and work alongside each other. It has made me so happy to see how delighted the Residents have been when the children come to work with us.

Hazel and Toby have formed a beautiful friendship, which is so heart-warming to see. The children were so polite and well behaved; it has been an absolute pleasure.”
