Introducing the Market Lavington kitchen team as part of Nutrition and Hydration WeekWith Nutrition and Hydration Week taking place from 13th-19th March 2023, kitchen Colleagues have been chatting about their role and what they love most about working at Market Lavington care home.

The kitchen team at Market Lavington care home, in Wiltshire, pride themselves on delivering nutritious, healthy, home-cooked meals to all Residents daily and work hard to cater to each individual need of the Residents including any modified diets and requirements and Residents thoroughly enjoy the food too. Dennis Scurrell, who lives at the care home, said, “The food has always been good here, I enjoy it when lunchtime comes around.”

Maya Chalke, Ali Cheetham, Maddy Cady, Sam Vowles and John Forni (all pictured) work closely in providing good service at breakfast, lunch and supper to all Residents at the 80-bed residential, nursing and dementia care home.

Using seasonal menus provided by the HC-One catering team, each Colleague has their part to play.

New Head Chef, Jon Forni, has brought some different ideas to the home and has settled in well within the team, after he previously worked in the army. He commented, “It’s different providing meals for the Residents as they have different dietary requirements. In the army we provided meals on mass, and they were usually all the same.”

Chef, Lewis Matthews, has been working at Market Lavington for 10 years and says that he enjoys preparing and making meals for Residents and says that his passion is baking. Lewis creates some delicious homemade cakes for the home’s afternoon tea trolleys and some amazing creations for Residents’ birthday cakes, which Residents always comment on how wonderful they are.

Lewis remarked, “I enjoy being able to use my creativity within the workplace, bringing my ideas to life for others to enjoy.”

Residents are also delighted with the cakes, Pam Johnson said, “The cakes are always nice to look at and taste even better.”

Billy Grimes has been working within the kitchen team for the past 5 years, supporting Lewis and Jon. He took an interest in developing his catering skills and along with the support from HC-One, Billy has been learning to lead the kitchen team and cook lunches from start to finish.

Billy said, “I really enjoy cooking and being able to learn new skills within the workplace.”

Wellbeing Coordinator, Michaela Powell, added, “The lovely smells coming from the kitchen before lunch makes me so hungry.”
