Interest in climbing led to 60 years of marriageTwo Residents of Penrith’s Cold Springs Park home, Colin and Florence Fearnley, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this month.

Colin was an engineer from Halifax, in West Yorkshire, while Flo worked in a cotton mill in Nelson, Lancashire.

They met at a climbing event where Flo was with a group from Lancashire and Colin was with a group from Yorkshire.

They then started to write to each other and soon realised they had quite a lot in common. They both enjoyed outdoor activities, including walking, cycling and, of course, climbing.

They both also loved to travel, which they did together as often as possible.

They retired to Cumbria 22 years ago.
