Independence Day celebrations at Wotton-under-Edge care homeHC-One’s Pennwood Lodge care home in Wotton-under-Edge declared its independence on Wednesday 4th July to commemorate the USA adopting the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776.

Residents and staff at Pennwood Lodge reminisced about the culture, cuisine and history of the USA. One Resident spoke about their travels around America in the 1950’s on the long highways stopping in roadside motels.

Others shared stories of meeting G.I’s and discovering Rock and Roll music for the first time. Afterwards, Residents, visitors and staff came together to enjoy a favourite American-style meal dishes including hot dogs, burgers, Boston bean casserole and jambalaya. 

A great time was had by all, Residents enjoyed the good conversations along with the delicious food, and one relative commented that they’ve never seen their dad eat so much.
