Huddersfield care home Residents knit blankets for animals injured in Australian wildfiresResidents at HC-One’s White Rose House care home in Holmfirth, Huddersfield have been putting their knitting talents to the test to donate blankets to animals injured in the Australian wildfires.

Upon hearing about the wildfires in Australia, Residents were devastated to discover the impact they were having on animals and wildlife in the country and expressed their desire to help out.

White Rose House was keen to get the local community involved in the efforts, as Multicraft Cabin, a craft shop based in Holmfirth, generously donated balls of wool and knitting needles in support of the cause.

Staff and Residents at the home have joined forces to knit as many garments for the animals as possible, creating blankets, mittens and booties for orphaned koalas and kangaroos.

Once all of the blankets have been knitted, the home will be sending them over to Australia.

Marie Richardson, Home Manager at White Rose House, said: “I am so proud of Residents and staff at White Rose House for helping with the recovery in Australia following the devastating wildfires.

“Our Residents love to get involved in knitting and other arts and crafts, so it was great to see them putting their talents to good use to create blankets for the injured and orphaned animals in Australia.

“Lovely gestures such as this are a prime example of how HC-One truly is a kind care company.”
