Huddersfield Care Home Hosts Charity night for Cancer Awareness Caring colleagues at The Oakes Care Home in Huddersfield hosted a charity night on the 13th October in order to raise awareness of cancer within the local community.

The event included a raffle, tombola, and even a beer and bucks fizz bar. Residents had a great time as they warmed up their vocal cords and had a go of the Karaoke. The event was well supported by the local community and the home even received a donation from the local Freemasons Lodge at Lindley of £100.

Resident Ronald Parker, a lifelong freemason commented:

“I enjoyed the singing and having a pint!”

Raising awareness of cancer has been especially important to The Oakes as one of their senior carers, Marja, 32 has been recently diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

Funds raised from the event would be split between Marja, to help support her and the Residents comfort fund. Altogether the home raised over £748.

Home manager Stuart Tyer commented,

“I would just like to thank all those who have supported our home. Our wellbeing coordinator Lisa has poured her heart and soul into this event."
