Howley care home Residents receive support from National Citizens ServiceResidents at HC-One’s Birch Court care home were recently delighted to be contacted by a local NCS group linked with Warrington youth club, as they were planning a social action project in the area.

The volunteers stated they wanted to support with a project around the environment and to get more people to learn about the topic, so decided that they would engage with older people.

The team of volunteers offered their support with gardening projects as they looked to engage with the residents and work in partnership with the home. As the home were planning to develop their memory garden, this would be an ideal project, and the NCS team were happy to support as they kindly arranged for donations from three local garden centres who provided flowers and soil.

They worked extremely hard in some difficult weather conditions and have made a huge difference to the garden, giving Residents and their families a lovely environment to sit and remember their loved ones.

Catherine Haycock, Home Manager, commented: “We are so grateful for the hard work and efforts of the NCS team, they have made such a difference to our memory garden and we are so pleased.”
