At Hodge Hill Grange care home, in Birmingham, Colleagues and Residents have been investing time in reminiscence projects and have already started to transform parts of the home into a more person-centred environment.
“As we invest a lot of personal one to one interaction, we asked ourselves how best to engage in this valued area of work,” explained Colleague Kevin Allen.
The Manager and Deputy Manager kindly added documents and other memorabilia to a memory basket. This is then taken around the home for everyone to have the opportunity to relive the days gone by.
“We have seen individuals come to light and share memories that have had a positive impact on their lives and has enabled us to develop our understanding of their special lives.”
Residents have had some very positive comments and Colleagues have found out that one of the Resident has sisters who were in the Land Army, how interesting?
Home Manager, Theresa Ingram-Gettins, commented, “Hodge Hill is definitely seeing the benefits of Colleagues inputting their time and efforts into this area of work.”
