Henley-on-Thames care home celebrates Waitangi DayResidents at HC-One’s Thamesfield care home in Henley-on-Thames have been learning about all things related to New Zealand as part of Waitangi Day celebrations.

Waitangi Day, a national holiday in New Zealand held annually on February 6th commemorates the anniversary of the singing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Residents at Thamesfield were treated to week of New Zealand-themed activities in anticipation of Waitangi Day, including, learning the armchair version of the infamous Haka.

On Wednesday 6th February, everyone gathered in the dining room for a delicious traditional New Zealand lamb shank followed by a homemade Pavlova. After their meal, Residents listened to a very interesting talk from Kiwi, Ray Woodhill who shared lots of facts about New Zealand including their culture, wildlife and food.

A great week was had by all, with Residents commenting that it was fun to learn more about New Zealand and joking that it would be good to organise a bus trip to visit the country.
