During lockdown Gittisham Hill House care home have been busy transforming an area of the home into a traditional cafe.
Tony Hoad, a very hardworking maintenance Colleague at the home, built a counter and shelves for all the goodies to go on, the tables were covered to match the cushions on the chairs. A former colleague Pat made some lovely curtains to match with the café nets as well.
Discussions were had as to what to call the cafe and eventually it was decided on "Grandma's Kitchen."
Everyday there will be fresh cakes on offer for anyone who fancies them along with a lovely cuppa and other treats like biscuits and sweets. The Residents seem to really like this new area as it brightens up a corner of the care home making it into a more usable space. Residents love being able to help themselves to the cakes and treats whenever they like.
Resident Rob Chandler remarked, “This look's great and these cakes are tasty”.
When the café officially opened, a launch was hosted with a special themed swinging 60s song and dance.
The wellbeing team, Jill Watts and Marie Bourne, saw this project out from start to finish. Jill commented, “What a good idea to make a cafe area for all to enjoy.
Home Manager, Marita Westaway observed the dance, "What a successful day, a café opening and tea dance as well. the cakes look good!”
