Hebburn care home shows appreciation for ‘society’s angels’ for International Nurses DayHC-One’s Hawthorn Court care home in Hebburn is celebrating the Residents and members of the team who have worked as nurses during this year’s International Nurses Day.

International Nurses Day is held on 12th May to honour Florence Nightingale’s birthday, who is widely considered as the founder of modern nursing. The date has been officially marked by The International Council of Nurses since 1974.

Noreen Rafferty, Joyce Johnson, Liz Allen and Nora Coltman have all worked as nurses during their lives and they are now Residents at Hawthorn Court. The ladies all have different backgrounds but they all worked at Ingham Infirmary at different stages of their working lives, which is something Hawthorn Court Home Manager, Amanda Sleightholme has in common with the former nurses.

All of the ladies shared their stories which was an interesting and heart-warming experience for all. The day gave everyone at Hawthorn Court the chance to extend their thanks to the healthcare professionals who have or are still providing care and support.

Hawthorn Court Home Manager, Amanda Sleightholme said: “It’s an honour to know such a wonderful group of women who have all had such unique journey in the nursing profession.

“As a nurse and on behalf of everyone at Hawthorn Court I would like to thank every nurse and healthcare professional for their hard work and commitment to helping others.”
