Healthwatch Sunderland recognises ‘star service’ at Ashton Grange care homeHC-One’s Ashton Grange care home in Sunderland is celebrating having received a Star Service Award from Sunderland Healthwatch in December.

Healthwatch Sunderland is a local branch of Healthwatch, whose aim is to support people to find the right health and social care services for them.

As part of the ‘care home life, what’s it really like’ project, Healthwatch carries out annual visits to all residential care homes across Sunderland.  The visits allow Healthwatch Sunderland to engage with Residents, staff and Relatives to gather data on what it is like to live in the home.

Healthwatch Sunderland’s ‘Nominate a star’, is an initiative introduced as a way of acknowledging and celebrating all the positive stories and comments that the organisation hears about health & social care services when out in the community talking to service users.

Ashton Grange was nominated for the Star Service Award by Healthwatch Sunderland after their annual visits from this year and last year, which rated the home as one of three care homes with the highest performance out of the forty eight care homes in Sunderland.

The team at Ashton Grange were delighted to welcome Anna and Wendy from Healthwatch Sunderland’s Engagement Team on Thursday 16th January when they were presented with their Star Service Award.

Ashton Grange Home Manager, Lesley Dawson said: “We are so pleased to have achieved this award, it is a real testament to the whole team’s commitment to providing the kindest care.”

Margaret Curtis, Project Lead from Sunderland Healthwatch commented: “We love hearing positive comments about exceptional services when we speak to those who live, work in and visit care homes in Sunderland. We are delighted to recognise the teams who deliver those services, and go that extra mile. You are all stars!”
