HC-One’s Lothian House enjoys ‘Outstanding’ success in latest CQC reportLothian House in Spennymoor, County Durham has become the sixth HC-One care home to be rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – the highest possible rating.

The residential care home joins the top 3% of adult social care services with the CQC’s highest rating following its latest inspection, making it one of the very best in the country.

In a glowing report, the CQC highlighted the “extremely person-centred” care at the home, noting the family culture present across the service. The Lothian House team were showered with praise for going “above and beyond” for the people they care for – for example, the CQC cited how residents were treated to and supported to go on a holiday to a local caravan park, allowing them to enjoy a trip to the seaside and have a meal in a restaurant. One resident described the experience as “fantastic” to inspectors, adding that they “laughed from morning until night”.

The CQC’s impressive assessment of Lothian House was shared by Residents, relatives and Staff at the home, who spoke of being part of “one big family”. One resident said that the family atmosphere had “boosted their confidence” while another said they would give the staff “10 out of 10”.

Lothian House’s achievement reflects HC-One’s commitment to being the first choice care home in the local community for older people looking for the kindest care. This is also demonstrated by HC-One achieving a 9.5/10 average rating on Carehome.co.uk – the leading comparison website for care home, with reviews and scores based on the feedback of residents and their loved ones. The high rating shows that HC-One is one of the best companies in the care home sector as rated by those who use the services.
