HC-One care homes across the UK have been marking the 2024 Olympic Games taking place in Paris this summer from July 26 to August 11 by participating in a host of sporting activities.
At
Sheraton Court Care Home in Hartlepool, Teesside, residents have been enjoying the 2024 Olympic Games by reminiscing memories of the past Olympic Games. Colleagues decided to create their own Olympic Games event, which included a variety of games for residents to enjoy such as foam axe throwing, plastic archery, plastic duck shooting, bowling, pea pod popping, horse racing, hoop games, tennis and badminton.
The home also held its very own Olympic torch ceremony. Both residents and colleagues had lots of fun, as the winners were celebrated with an awards ceremony.

At
Broadoak Manor Care Home in St Helens, Merseyside, colleagues created their very own ‘Olympic Scavenger Hunt’ to celebrate this summer’s Olympic Games taking place.
Residents were set the challenge of locating pictures which could be found around various locations at Broadoak Manor. All the pictures once found had Olympic-themed actions, puzzles and questions to complete.
Patrick Murphy, Home Manager at Broadoak Manor Care Home, stated:
“Residents really enjoyed exploring the different areas of the care home, going on a scavenger hunt to find the Olympic themed pictures which contained actions, puzzles and quests to complete. Residents enjoyed putting their knowledge about the Olympics to the test.”
At
Oaklands Care Home in Laindon, Essex, residents participated in an Olympic-themed morning which involved lots of fun and teamwork. The Olympic-themed morning brought residents, families and colleagues together for a day of fun friendly competition.
The lounge area of the home was especially festively decorated for the occasion with Olympic posters, bunting and balloons to create a vibrant and exciting atmosphere to set the stage for the day’s activities. The festivities started with a special moment when residents took on the role of torchbearers and held the home’s Olympic torch to set a joyful tone for the day.
Residents and family members eagerly participated in a variety of the home’s Olympic Games, including ball games, bean bag toss, and balloon basketball. The atmosphere at the home was filled with cheers and smiles, as many people showcased their skills and enjoyed the lively spirit of the event.
Colleagues also enthusiastically took part in the games, adding to the inclusive environment. In recognition of everyone's efforts and participation, medals were handed out to all who participated. Each recipient beamed with pride as they received their medal, a cherished token and memory of the day's achievements.
Adding a sweet touch to the morning, kitchen colleagues provided a display of beautifully decorated cupcakes, each adorned with a glitter Olympic rings topper. The delightful treats were a highlight, enjoyed by all as they took a well-deserved break from the games to enjoy the delicious creations.
