Mayor Margaret Notley and Mayoress Cathy Bibby joins ‘Summer Celebration’ at Woodlands View Care HomA HC-One care home welcomed local Mayor Margaret Notley and Mayoress Cathy Bibby at their 'Summer Celebration' event.
Woodlands View Care Home in Poplars, Stevenage, was visited on Friday 1st July by the Mayor of Stevenage, Councillor Margaret Notley and Mayoress for Woodford, Cathy Bibby, as the home welcomed visitors and guests from the local community to the home to participate in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations from 27th June to 3rd July 2022.

The 120-bed friendly, residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home, which is owned by HC-One, was delighted to open its doors to celebrate Care Home Open Week with Residents, Colleagues, friends, family, and the wider community.

Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. This year, homes across the UK enjoyed being able to celebrate with communities in person again, having marked the annual event virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents and Colleagues of the HC-One owned home enjoyed meeting Mayor Margaret Notley and Mayoress Cathy Bibby and chatting to them about what life is like at Woodlands View – which is an integral part of the local Stevenage community.

Woodlands View’s chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘Summer Celebration’ with a Hawaiian twist. Throughout the week, Residents, Colleagues, families, and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities which were enjoyed by all, including a morning exercise class in Wellfield House and a morning cookery class over in Lucas House. Later in the day there was a history event named “on this day in history” where various world events were discussed that had happened on the 1st of July. Later in the afternoon, Pina Colada’s were served on the patio with fresh fruit baskets accompanied by a sing along with some of the Residents and their favourite songs.

One Resident at Woodlands View, Lillian Strange, is a past Mayor of Stevenage and was absolutely thrilled when she got the opportunity to meet the current Mayor, Margaret Notley.
Visitors also enjoyed learning from Colleagues in the home about what a rewarding career in care looks like and finding out about opportunities for community engagement and volunteering roles to support their local care community.

Deby O’Hare, Home Manager at Woodlands View Care Home, said:
“We were delighted to welcome Mayor Margaret Notley and Mayoress Cathy Bibby to our home and open the doors of Woodlands View again to welcome in our local community and bring everyone together to celebrate Care Home Open Week 2022. Everyone had an amazing time.

“We are proud to support Stevenage, and our Open Week celebrations provided a great opportunity to reconnect with our local community after the challenges of the pandemic, to support community engagement, and to remind our local community that our kind care teams are here if they ever need support for themselves or a loved one.”

Woodford’s Mayoress Cathy Bibby said:
“We had a wonderful time visiting everyone this morning and meeting both residents and staff. Staff do an amazing job and such a happy place. Thank you so much.”
