Haslington care home residents’ wish comes true as he goes fishing for the first time in yearsBrian Halfpenny, who lives at HC-One’s Primrose House care home, in Haslington, Crewe, enjoyed a day out reliving his past hobby of fishing.

Brian, who is 81, was recently talking to Nursing Assistant, Craig Joinson, about how he used to go fishing often and has been a very keen fisherman from being a young boy. He was often found by the water’s edge fishing somewhere. Craig, who is also a very keen fisherman decided to help arrange a trip out for Brian to turn his dream of going out to fish again, into a reality.

Head Housekeeper (and minibus driver) Cem Balcikli arranged a time and place and took Brian fishing with Craig to Nantwich.

Fishing rods were packed along with some bait and a super packed lunch and off they went out for the day.

Brain managed to catch six fish (far more than the two staff with him) and came back to the residential dementia and nursing dementia care home with a smile beaming across his face!

Craig Joinson, Nursing Assistant at Primrose House said:
“Brian was still able to set up his rod and cast a line. It’s fantastic!”

Dawn Sadler, Home Manager at Primrose House care home, commented:
“What better thing can we do for someone than make a dream become reality.
Brian had such a lovely day.
When looking at the pictures and seeing how happy everyone is, that is priceless!"

Brian’s next fishing trip is currently being planned.
