Harvest Festival activities at Daneside CourtHarvest Festival over the years has meant so much to Residents at Daneside Court residential and nursing care home, in Northwich. It brings them a feeling of belonging, a time where they can reflect upon life; not only a time to reflect upon the disasters in the world, but also a time to reflect upon all that’s good.

Hazel, who lives at the home, volunteered for over 20 years in the church, it was a huge part of her life. She mainly managed the flowers leading a team of people and remembers decorating the church ready for Harvest, and she created tapestry textile art; this remains a passion of hers today.

Due to restrictions, although the home may not have the school children playing a part in Harvest this year, or the local church leading the Harvest service, but what is important is that everyone remains strong together.

So, Colleagues and Residents we took the opportunity and came together and took the time to listen to each other and respect one another.

The Harvest Festival meant that Residents played a huge part in preparing materials for the display, making a high-tech modern scarecrow as well as making shortbread biscuits and enjoyed them during the Harvest service along with a tipple. Residents read poems and prays and enjoyed singing Harvest traditional songs. It was certainly a time of coming together, sharing and saying thank you.

Residents fully immersed themselves in the celebrations.

Douglas, who is a Resident, said, “It’s great getting together!”

Doris added, “Are we having treats like we did in the church?”

Dories enjoyed singing a solo “All things bright and beautiful” and read a poem titled, “For the fruits of His creation”.

Hazel read Psalm “You visit the earth and water it…”and sang “We plough the fields and scatter.”

Wellbeing Coordinator Sharon Lelonek. reflected upon the time in which Residents have spent preparing for Harvest and then coming together to give thanks. She remarked, “It was a wonderful afternoon.”
