Hartlepool care home’s festival brings community together to celebrate autumnA Harvest Festival held at HC-One’s Sheraton Court in Hartlepool, County Durham, helped Residents to meet new people, make new friends and have meaningful moments in the company of others.

The event was also in support of Silver Sunday, which helps combat loneliness within the community and helps to increase happiness and wellbeing.

Sheraton Court welcomed members of the local community to mark the start of the autumn season on Friday 5th October and hosted a range of harvest themed activities including a Harvest Festival service by the pastor from Holy Trinity Church. All of the Residents gathered to listen to the service and pray for the harvest. Everyone enjoyed a sing-a-long to songs including “All Things Bright and Beautiful” and “We Plough the Fields and Scatter”.

Residents and staff donated food items and distributed the harvest collection to the pastor who will take the donation back to the Holy Trinity Church, as it’s a drop in centre for the elderly who want a bit of company and to share a meal with someone, or those who are suffering hard ship.

Natasha Mason, Home Manager at HC-One’s Sheraton Court Care Home commented:

“Combining Silver Sunday and Harvest festival gave Residents the opportunity to get to know people in the community and to build relationships with each other.

“The event was a great success and we were so pleased to be able to donate valuable food to our neighbours.”

Silver Sunday celebrates older people and helps to combat loneliness, while Harvest Festival celebrates food that’s grown and produced on England’s home soil.
